Art Exhibition

PorqueNo Exhibit

UX Design

PorqueNo is a biennial art exhibition that celebrates creativity and interpretation through a unified theme. Each exhibition invites a diverse collection of artists whose unique perspectives transform the space. The organisers sought to establish a digital platform that would inform, inspire, and attract both artists and visitors. I joined the design team at BlueMelon to support the UI/UX design process.

The Problem

Prior to this project, Information about the exhibition was limited to word of mouth, printed flyers, and small local promotions. As the event gained momentum and the curators aimed to expand awareness and reach, a simple but engaging website became essential.

Goals

  • Design a clear, intuitive website that communicates what PorqueNo is, where it takes place, and when it’s on
  • Showcase a visual gallery archive of past exhibitions
  • Enable a simple online artist submission form

Research & Insights

During the early phase of the project, the design team conducted a competitive analysis of exhibition websites, artist showcases, and cultural events. We found that the best art focused websites often allow the artwork and imagery to dominate, with minimal design interference. We also found that simplicity in structure and copywriting was critical for creating clarity around event details.

Reflection & Results

Outcomes

  • The launch of the website gave PorqueNo a central, professional hub to promote its exhibitions and attract wider audiences.
  • The gallery sections successfully conveyed the diversity and spirit of each event, increasing interest from first-time attendees and artists.

Learnings

  • Supporting the lead designer taught me the importance of structuring a site around its primary purpose, in this case, letting the artwork and documentation speak for itself.
  • I learned how visual hierarchy and simplicity can guide users through an experience without overwhelming them.
